Once you’ve picked out the countertop you want for your home, you have another big decision to make, and while many people may not view the countertop edge as a big decision, the edge detail can change the look of your kitchen in an instant. Rock Doctor knows that picking a countertop edge style isn’t as easy as it seems, so we are here to help you know your options.
With about a dozen different countertop edges for stone countertops to choose from, there are options for every kitchen style. The most popular edge styles are beveled, bullnose, demi-bullnose, eased, and ogee, all of which create a different feeling for the countertops.
Beveled Edge
If you are looking for a sleek style that is both contemporary and subtle, the beveled edge is perfect. A beveled edge has a clipped, flat corner that makes the countertops look a little more formal without being overly ornate or vintage.
The standard bevel edge is set at a 45-degree angle, but beveled edges can be made smaller or larger. The larger the bevel, the bolder the look. For an especially bold look, a double beveled countertop can be added to any style of kitchen without disrupting the feel of the room.
Bullnose Edge
The bullnose edge is completely rounded from top to bottom and provides a timeless look to your countertops. The softer look of the bullnose edge makes countertops look thinner and more delicate. Without extra details and grooves, this countertop edge is one of the easiest to clean. For families with young children, a bullnose edge is a great option as there are no sharp edges that children could run into.
Demi-Bullnose/Half Bullnose
Much like the regular bullnose edge, the demi- or half bullnose starts out rounded on the top, but comes to a sharper edge on the bottom, forming a quarter oval shape. This classic design works well in any style of kitchen.
Eased Edge
For a modern, simple look, the eased edge’s flat design is perfect. This edging type is just square with slightly rounded, or eased, corner to make the design appear less harsh than it would with sharp corners. Eased edge countertops are the easiest to clean and make countertops look thicker than many of the other countertop edge types.
Ogee Edge
The ogee edge is more intricate than the other edges that have been listed. Ogee edges generally have two curves, much like an “S,” and make a space look more traditional and elegant. Unlike the eased edge, the ogee edge makes countertops look their thinnest. Due to the curves, the ogee edge is the most difficult to keep properly cleaned.
Waterfall Edge
One of the newest trends in kitchen design is the waterfall countertop. A waterfall countertop brings the edge of the countertop all the way down to the floor on the ends of a countertop. The look is generally used on islands to create a focal point in the room.
While all countertop edges have a slightly different style, they all need to be cleaned the same way. Stone countertops require special care, and Rock Doctor’s Granite & Quartz Cleaner, Polish, and Sealer products are the best way to keep those countertops looking brand new. No matter what style of edge your kitchen countertops have, you can use Rock Doctor’s product line to keep them clean—although some might take a little extra elbow grease to get down into the grooves.
The Granite & Quartz Cleaner safely cleans granite, marble, quartz, and other natural stone countertops to prevent damage to the stone that may occur when other cleaners are used. The non-abrasive formula is made to clean and protect countertops without scratching the stone, and it is made to be used with the Granite & Quartz Polish, which returns countertops’ shine without leaving an oily residue behind. Lastly, the Granite & Stone Sealer creates a thin layer of protection on top of your countertops to prevent damage from liquids, acidic substances, and more.
